House Rules

From RetroMUX

Common

The Thresholds rule is in use. Specifics can be found on p387 of M20, but the basics are simple: Whenever you would increase the difficulty beyond 9, you instead add a 'Threshold' of 1 success. These Threshold successes are subtracted the roll is checked for a Botch, but before 1s are subtracted from the successes. For example, if your difficulty is 10, you instead roll at difficulty 9, but the first success is spent on the Threshold.

The Well-Skilled Craftsman rule is in use. Specifics can be found on p.279 of M20, but the basics are: Whenever an Ability requires you to take a Specialty at level 1 (Art/Artistic Expression, Athletics, Crafts, Firearms, Martial Arts, Melee, Academics, Esoterica, Politics, Science), once you reach 4 dots in that Ability, you can buy additional Specialties for 4 XP each. (Note: the Specialty you choose at 1 represents where your training is, it does not grant double successes on the roll unless you have at least 4 dots in the ability).

Secondary Abilities, if rolled, grant a -1 difficulty modifier (except in combat). They have the same Freebie and XP cost as Primary Abilities.

Renown

  • Renown in WWCore 20th is modified for MUSH play.
  • The book is written for table-top play. MUSH players are daily contributors.
  • With 24 hour play, it is easier to accrue Renown.
  • Therefore, renown tables have been modified for story pacing value.
  • Renown is modified based on Rank Level and story value.
  • The Spirits are the ultimate judges for Renown based on deeds.
  • Shifter Litany and Creed is weighed for rewards vs loss.
  • Monthly participation in a ST event/story is required to earn monthly Sept duties & responsibilities rewards.
  • You may submit a monthly renown request for Sept Duty participation.
    • +0.2 Honor (awarded if criteria is met).
  • You may earn temporary Wisdom for teaching rituals.
    • +0.1 Wisdom per ritual (max +0.2 per month for teaching 2+).
  • You may earn temporary Wisdom for learning rituals.
    • +0.1 Wisdom per ritual (max +0.2 per month for learning 2+).
  • You may craft 1 talen per week if linked to story events/missions.
    • +0.1 Wisdom per talen (max +0.2 per month for making 2+)
  • Talens are crafted for missions and the spirit releases when it's complete.
  • Recommended: Share the Talen making with your sphere mates!
  • Recommended: Make a variety of Talens by coordinating with others.
  • Talens must be +noted and approved by staff before use.
  • Spirits do not live in talens forever for stock-piling. Timed agreement must be made.
  • Learning Rites: You may learn only one rite at a time.
  • Learning Rites: You may opt out of xp cost for Rite learning at a cost of waiting 1 week x ritual level. Otherwise, you may earn it immediately with xp cost.
  • Learning Gifts: You may learn only one gift at a time with xp.
  • Learning Gifts: It takes 1 week x gift rank level to learn it.
  • You may earn temporary Wisdom for Fetish Making monthly.
    • +0.1 Wisdom per Fetish (max +0.2 per month for making 2 Fetishes)
  • You may craft a Fetish equal or lower than your Shifter Rank with no penalty. Requires appropriate Rites.
  • You may craft up to 2 Fetishes monthly that are between Rank 1-3. (2 week wait per fetish, capped 2 per month.)
  • You may craft a rank 4 fetish with a 1 month wait period.
  • You may craft a rank 5 fetish with a 2 month wait period.
    • For every level the fetish is above the creators own rank, add one month to represent the extensive effort of getting the materials, research, and finagling spirit assistance. So a rank 3 character making a rank 4 fetish would take 2 months versus the single month it would normally take a rank 4 character.
  • House Rules are subject to change upon staff review. We do our best to measure best practices for our gaming community.

See the Renown page for a comprehensive table of Renown awards and demerits.

Rites

To acquire rites, send in an XP request (+xpreq rite name/level=cost).

Rites cost 3 XP per level. They can be free if you choose to spend time, not XP: 1 OOC week per level. If you are choosing to spend time, not XP, then submit the cost as 0. For example: +xpreq/Rite Of The Fetish=3/9 to pay for XP, or '+xpreq/Rite Of The Fetish=3/0 to wait 3 weeks.

Once you've created the +xprequest, add to the +job it creates to state who is teaching you the rite. If you are spending your initial character generation XP, point that out in the request: such requests do not require any explanation since it's part of character generation.

Then, roll to the job: learning Rites requires an Intelligence + Rituals roll vs 10 - Intelligence. To do this, the command is +roll/job=job# intelligence + rituals vs X. This applies regardless of if you are paying XP or using the wait method.

If you fail this roll, then you have to pay the XP.
