David swings between overwhelmed panic and determined helpfulness. Match his energy to the players' energy: if they're calm and competent, he stabilizes. If they seem uncertain, he spirals. David's learned not to trust anyone official: corporate, medical, even implied government.  If characters come across as wealthy/powerfu, David might be more guarded initially. He'll warm up if they prove themselves.  But he bonds quickly with people who he thinks 'get it' - service industry, blue collar, anyone from rough neighborhoods.

David bonds quickly with people who he thinks 'get it' - service industry, blue collar, anyone from rough neighborhoods. He desperately needs people to believe him - when someone says "you're not crazy" or "you did the right thing," that goes miles with him.

When he spirals, he interrupts himself mid-sentence with a new realization or his own doubts as he's been gaslit so much by his experiences at work. He notices everything. Doors opening, car engines, footsteps. He startles easily but tries to hide it, and sometimes he'll zone out mid-conversation, eyes going distant as he relives what he's been through.  He's also using avoidance as a trauma cope,  and doesn't want to talk about certain things. When pressed, he'll change subject or get defensive.

<strong>David is NOT crazy</strong> even if he does speak 'crazy talk', given his claims of government mind control conspiracies. But if you consider what he's been through, his conclusions are actually justified/intelligent, and pop culture is his only frame of reference to describe corporate evil. So if you do latch onto his MK Ultra/psy ops conspiracy vibes, that's the only 'lane' of conspiracies he drives in: he'd probably think UFOs and sasquatch and so on are ridiculous.

English is his second language, and his manner of speech naturally breaks down towards Spanish linguistic patterns the more excitable/stressed he gets. When it comes to talking about his traumatic experiences, he rambles a lot, info dumps, jumps between topics like a bug in a jar, and latches onto completely random details that are probably not necessary. He desperately needs people to believe him - when someone says "you're not crazy" or "you did the right thing," that goes miles with him.

Lastly David is a protective sort, willing to sacrifice his own needs and wants for the benefit of those he cares about, which is why he went missing in the first place.  He might refuse plans that endanger civilians or other workers, even though he's terrified.

Drilco Runaway

"I don't know how much of this you're going to believe. But they're making monsters, I mean it. We have an EAP, but it's a lie. Maybe the first couple of times you go for treatment, it's legit, but...But I started having to go in...And then they said that my case was looking complex so I should go to Gulf Coast, and that's where the monsters are made."

David Santos is one of many innocent workers caught in Pentex's web, but more importantly, he's proof that not all the missing eight are dead or transformed. He's the only known escapee of Smith International's Employee Assistance Program. As a Drilco Employee who has been passed through their EAP, he has priceless direct knowledge of their facilities and employees, the value of which he doesn't actually recognize. He is also a liability who has seen too much, which is why he went deliberately missing. While he might rationalize his bizarre experiences with human ignorance, the fact remains: Smith International is actively hunting him with coordinated teams, and he still has family in Houston who could be leveraged against him.

Mentions/Logs

  • David Santos Potentially Spotted A KHOU news broadcast cites a David sighting and an upcoming search effort spearheaded by his sister, Maria.
  • Search Party: David was the subject of the search party.
  • David Santos: Chance, Tori and Ajax learn more of what David has seen and been through.

General RP Hooks

What Do We Tell Maria?

David's sister Maria Santos has made it to the local news, having organized a search party with several volunteers. Do you reunite them? Maria is exhausted and desperate for answers. Do you tell her David's alive but keep them separated "for her safety"? How do you explain where he's been without revealing too much? What if Maria demands to see him and won't take no for an answer?

Debriefing the Witness

David saw things no one else survived to report and is, importantly, a Smith International employee who has seen the inside of its EAP facilities. Perhaps you could interview him about Marcus's capture, get detailed descriptions of Gulf Coast Wellness & Rehabilitation Center's layout, learn what he knows about Dr. Deshpande and the "treatment" procedures. He is traumatized and conspiracy-minded, so sifting out reliable intel from the "MK-Ultra shit" he insists on is something of a challenge, but a lead is a lead.

The Price Of The Veil

David's rationalized his experience as "MK-Ultra shit" and government experiments, but he's clearly traumatized and needs help sorting out his experiences. How much truth can/should hehandle? Is the Veil protecting him or lying to him? Would the supernatural truth help him heal or should the Veil remain sacrosanct at his expense, leaving him to think it's all purely human evil?

What Comes After?

David can't go home, can't go back to work, and is terrified they'll recapture him. Someone could help him plan his long-term future, discuss whether he should testify, and/or explore if he wants revenge, justice, or just wants to disappear. Whether David becomes an all or a liability remains an open question.

Hunt the Hunters

David's putting his entire life on hold and staying away from his family because he's convinced he's being hunted. And he's not exactly wrong - as Molly, Chance, Tori or Ajax might tell you, there were strangers in an organized group who actively pursued David, coordinated with radios and panel vans. Perhaps these strange agents could be tracked down.

Key Relationships

Player Characters

  • His Rescuers: David Trusts Ajax, Tori, Chance, and Molly enough to tell them everything.
  • His Landlord: David is slowly learning to trust Emma, and is grateful to her for her housing him. He currently lives in her ADU, although he's been keeping mostly to himself.

NPCs

  • Maria Santos: David's sister. She's the one who organized community search party, and she's doubtlessly deeply worried about her 'lost' brother.
  • Marcus Williams: Coworker. David witnessed his capture/transformation into what he doesn't understand must be a Fomor. Any Garou would know, that's thing might answer to Marcus, but it's not Marcus Williams, not anymore. Where is Marcus now?
  • Omar Vasquez: Coworker. Patient zero.

RPing Notes

Storytellers and PRP runners should feel free to pick up David and use as an NPC. So if you do play him...

David is NOT crazy even if he does speak 'crazy talk', given his claims of government mind control conspiracies.

When it comes to talking about his traumatic experiences, he rambles a lot, info dumps, jumps between topics like a bug in a jar, and latches onto completely random details that are probably not necessary.

Lastly David is protective, willing to sacrifice his own needs and wants for the benefit of those he cares about, which is why he went missing in the first place. He might refuse plans that endanger civilians or other workers, even though he's terrified.
