As a member of The Sept of The Holly King, characters get to benefit from the territory the Sept currently controls. Among those benefits are the two Caerns currently under the Septs care below.
Juniper Cross Caern
|
Members of the Sept have the ability to understand each other no matter the spoken language. This does not grant the ability to understand those outside of the Sept without the appropriate language merit, nor the ability to speak/read/write the language. Spirit Speech and other 'magical' languages are exempt from this Caern Power and must be learned the traditional way.
NPC mortals of Juniper Cross are mechanically treated as generic Kinfolk, having no evidence of lineage, purebreeding or the like, but they 'read' as kinfolk. PC Kinfolk of the Sept gain enhanced resilience and begin play with attributes 7/5/3. In addition kinfolk who have obtained renown are able to join packs, and contribute one point of totem per dot of renown.
The Library is the heart of the Caern, and while it's shelves were barren for years, they've since filled out with mundane and spirit books alike. All knowledge-based rolls performed in the library get a +1 modifier to their dice pool.
Juniper protects its own. Attempts to locate, track back to, or pursue a Sept Member into or inside Juniper have a +2 difficulty modifier. It's not just that the locals don't snitch (but they don't), it's that traffic lights change in your favor, a convenient truck turns at just the right moment to obfuscate your efforts to ditch your tail.
Through the synergistic relationship between the Caern Totem, The Juniper tree, and the unofficial totem of the community The People, Juniper presents a united front unlike any other. The NPC kin in the community now better understand their new found place in the greater scope of the Gaian world, through months of dreams, signs, symbols, stories told by the community, small talks.
This unity of purpose can be unnerving for any trouble that finds its way into the neighborhood, as swaths of people move with uncanny synchronicity. Outsiders whisper that the streets themselves seem to rise against intruders, and they do, as neighbors close ranks in eerie harmony, voices echoing one another in chorus, every door and window part of the same silent watch. To witness it is to feel that the entire community has become one living, breathing spirit, focused wholly on its own defense.
- Garou, Fera, and kinfolk of the Sept gain +1 die to all dice pools to actively defend Juniper. This includes combat, and non-combat pools, but it must be specific to Juniper and not general 'badness'.
- Outsiders entering Juniper find they face a united front, and must succeed on a Willpower roll (difficulty 7) at the start of the scene to act against the community while inside the Juniper Cross Neighborhood. Failure results in hesitation, fear, or retreat, and -1 to any dice pools to act against the communities interests. While a botch may send outsiders fleeing entirely if they find themselves at odds with the community (ST discretion). This effect does not stem from Delirium, but from the unnerving realization that an entire neighborhood is moving in harmony.
The Closed Juniper Cross Community School represents a unique Caern type. The surrounding community has the unofficial totem of The People, and it works in a synergistic relationship with the Caern's Juniper Totem. The more you invest in the well being of the community, the stronger the Caern becomes.
The Forest Caern

Eldrin the Verdant, known as the Last Druid, stands as a figure of immense power and sorrow, embodying the final remnants of an ancient race of Giants who once walked the Earth in harmony with nature. His legend is one of profound connection to the natural world, a testament to the enduring bond between the land and it's stewards. Eldrin’s tale is woven into the fabric of the Fathomless Depths, and is yet to fully be discovered.
Eldrin belongs to a forgotten age when Giants roamed the Earth as protectors and caretakers of its wild places. These colossal beings, ancient even by the standards of elder races, were deeply attuned to the rhythms of nature. They wielded primal magics and nurtured the land, fostering its growth and ensuring balance. However, their time came to an end as the encroachment of civilization, the rise of new powers, and the corrupting influence of darker forces pushed the Giants to extinction. Eldrin, the last of his kind, bears the weight of their legacy, a spiritual memory of their noble purpose.
Successfully performing Rite of the Opened Caern grant +1 Health level per Caern's Rank (+5 in this instance). This is considered an extremely dangerous act, Caern's don't like giving up their power. Failing the rite can result in taking Caern levels in Lethal damage, or even Agg in case of a botch. This is only to be done with Staff permission and the benefits only work in direct defense of the Caern.
The area surrounding the Caern are regularly patrolled and home to the spirit Meridian who is irrevocably tied to the forest. The last spirit of the forest was killed by a Name Breaker (mage), and their ilk will not find a hospitable welcome here, nor should they so close to the Caern.
