Introduction[ edit ]

Tim and Shannon O'Malley were part of a moderately successful folk band in the 1950's and early 60's, but had settled down in San Diego to teach music and raise their newborn daughter Molly. When she was about 2 years old, their former bandmates got invited for a tour of Europe, and Tim and Shannon joined them, leaving Molly with her paternal aunt and uncle. And shortly thereafter, on a night of torrential rain in the Alps, their bus crashed and they died.

And so Molly was raised in a much different environment than she might have been, a world of high expectations, rigid rules, careful etiquette, and a value on ambition, rigor, and constant grind. Appearances mattered. Not without affection, but her aunt was definitely a Tiger Mom long before the phrase was invented. Her parent's talent and love for music was respected... insofar as Molly was given no option about violin lessons, music lessons, singing lessons, and hours and hours of practice. Skill was expected, praise came with being exceptional.

And she was exceptional. So much so that she got a full ride to Juilliard to become a classically trained violinist. Her aunt and uncle worried about her being off on her own all the way across the country, but could hardly say no to such a prestigious institution, and so off she went.

She didn't last the year. Dropping out before the end of her freshman year, Molly took off to become a bartender, then travelled the Renaissance Faire circuit for a while before going on to travel the country and take jobs at all sorts of interesting businesses across the country. And then a friend of a friend decided to sell his Houston area blues club, and Molly snapped the building up.

Now she's running Fiddler's Hearth, an Irish pub with a focus on music down in the 3rd Ward.

Behind the scenes...
Of course she dropped out of Juilliard because of her Chrysalis. Molly became aware of her True Self at a New Year's Eve party in New York City, primed for the change by changeling friends she'd made at an Irish pub she'd been going to on the weekends with her Juilliard roommate. The last few years, she's been moving around the Boggan social and business network, making connections and learning her craft while her Wilder years were still new. Now it's time to settle down and make a home and hearth for herself and for the fae community, and Houston seems to be the place that the D'an has led her.
RP Hooks[ edit ]
  • Fiddler's Hearth
Molly is the owner and operator of the Fiddler's Hearth Irish Pub in the 3rd Ward, near the Juniper Cross community. She's just opened the place up, having bought the building from the previous owner, a blues club proprietor named Amos. Everyone is welcome at the Hearth, as long as they don't hurt the pub and don't make problems for Molly.
  • Everyone's in the Band
Tuesday nights at the pub is pub sing night, where everyone is welcome to come with a song in their heart and an instrument in their hands and join in. Second drink is free for all who perform.
  • Do a Good Turn Daily
Molly is always ready to step in and help out where possible. Whether that's offering a free meal to those in need or helping someone escape a bad situation or anything in between.
  • Good Listener
Molly is just.. incredibly easy to trust and talk to, and that's on top of the skills she's learned as a bartender. Even the hardest nut to crack might well be willing to open up to her.
  • Long and Winding Road
Did you grow up in private schools in San Francisco? Spend the early 90's at Juilliard in New York? Spend the last few years on the Ren Fest circuit? You might have run into Molly in any of these situations.
On the other hand..
  • Merry Met!
Molly is a Boggan, as common as Commoner can be, and as Seelie as water is wet.
  • Longer and More Winding Road
Molly's got a long memory (Remembrance: 3) and a stream of interesting lives, so she might have met you, or some version of you, before. Particularly of note: During the Concordance War, Molly was part of the Children's Underground Railroad, and saved childlings, kinain, and loved ones on BOTH sides of the conflict at great risk. Her neutrality (if that's what it truly was) was rewarded with a swift and violent death in San Francisco Bay a couple of years before King David ap Gwydion ended the war. Maybe she saved you when you were a childling, maybe she got in the way of your plots and you still hold a grudge. If you want to go further back, we can certainly work up a history that they crossed paths in!
