Combat Threat Levels

  • Minor Threat: Combat took less than 3 rounds, nobody took more than 3 damage, and/or nobody spent over 3 WP+Rage
  • Average Threat: Combat took 3-5 rounds, enemy rolled 5+ damage dicepool at any point, and/or a shifter took at least 3 damage in one hit
  • Strong Threat: Combat took 6+ rounds, enemy rolled 8+ damage dicepool at any point (that could kill you!), and/or a shifter took at least 5 damage in one hit.
  • Powerful Threat: Combat took 6+ rounds, the enemy rolled 15+ damage dicepool at any point, and either a shifter was incapacitated at any point, or had to exhaust all willpower and rage to win.

If a third party would reasonably recognize your action as disrespectful, then it is disrespectful, regardless of your intentions.

Disobey a rightful Sept authority -Rank Penalty does not apply if the order violates the Litany.

Sacrifice Treasures For Community Variable You are sacrificing something represented by Background dots. You get Honor equal to those background dots. It must be for the benefit of anyone but yourself. You do not get this resource back. Example: releasing the spirit of your level 3 Fetish gets you +3 Honor.
Uphold Your Commitments Despite Adversity +2 You are expected to uphold your commitments (promises, sept positions, etc.) in general, but when something is sabotaging your ability to do so or you must make sacrifices to complete your commitments, that deserves Honor.

Despite being physically capable, you stopped fulfilling responsibilities, forcing others to cover for you. Harano, spiritual crisis, depression are not 'cause': Do Not Suffer Thy People to Tend Thy Sickness. Let No Shade Accuse You. Keep Duty First In Heart.

Seek Benefit At Expense Of Allies -Rank If you chose the option that benefits you at the expense anyone else in your group, regardless of intent. Does not apply to reasonable self-preservation.

Disrupt Ceremonies, Rites, or Meetings -Rank Examples: interrupting the ritualist(s), leaving during a critical moment, causing a confrontation, bringing forbidden things or uninvited companions.   • Resisted acting immediately while angry or frightened, when doing so would have earned a new enemy.
  • Chose not to retract a decision despite personal adversity, leading to later, concrete group benefit.
  • Released the Spirit from a personal Fetish.
  • Forfeited an opportunity for personal gain by stepping aside due to conflict of interest.
  • Prevented a major escalation or imminent harm by choosing a compromise that left you wanting.
  • Shared critical knowledge or resources despite personal consequences on resources/reputation.

Protect Sacred Sites And Things +1 You either ensured that a sacred space or item will only be entered/used by those who honor it, or took proactive steps to handle the consequences of it being breached/mishandled. This includes obfuscating critical information from the unvetted, gatekeeping access, and innovating security measures. Does NOT include fighting threats that already broke in.
Preserve And Pursue Knowledge +1 Redeemable max 2x a month. Either...
  • You learned or taught another how to use a Gift or a Rite.
  • You trained up someone's skill set as mentor to a dot rating of 2 ('competent') or higher.
  • You entered a mentor-mentee relationship and have at least 1 scene log dedicated to training.
  • You volunteered objectively useful advice/counsel on specific concepts that translate into Abilities.
  • You created a talen or fetish.
Purify Wyrm-Tainted Places, People, Things Variable

+2 Wisdom if ....

  • Ranks 0 and 1: You did it at all.
  • Rank 2: You overcame a specific obstacle (security measures, enemies) to do so.
  • Rank 3+: You overcame an obstacle AND eradicated the source so it will not re-occur.

Get +1 more Wisdom for each rank tier requirement you fulfill while being a lower rank. So, if you, at rank 1, overcame an obstacle and eradicated the source, you'd get a total of +4.

Secure Certain Proof That Someone Is Of the Wyrm Variable

You surfaced verifiable evidence that goes beyond accusation, rumor, or coercion. This evidence is something people can observe, not your word alone that you used Sense Wyrm.

  • +2 for exposing humans, kinfolk
  • +3 for exposing objects or areas (e.g. identifying a Pentex front)
  • +6 for exposing a shifter
Follow Mystic Signs With Discernment Variable

You acted meaningfully on an omen, prophetic dream, spirit riddle, or supernatural sign in a way that guided your decisions.

  • +1 if it reveals useful information or a minor supernatural resource (talen, spirit contact, hidden locus)
  • +3 if it secures a strategic or tactical advantage, prevents a major failure, or averts significant harm
  • +5 if it validated major prophecy that alters sept, faction, or regional conditions in a lasting way

  • Fought a powerful foe without aid (see Combat Threat Levels for 'powerful' threats).
  • Deviated from an agreed-on plan during combat for reasons other than preservation of life

-0.5x Rank Honor, double if it involves the use of a fetish. Does not apply to reasonable self-preservation in combat. One of the following:

  • Took drastic/escalating action in the presence of others not suited for combat in response to harassment/insult/intimidation.
  • Decision-making protected one's ego, status, or resources at the knowing expense of allies.
  • Refusal to course-correct in the face of new information led to otherwise preventable consequences.
  • Failure or refusal to step aside in a matter after conflict of interest is identified by self or others.
  • Refusal to compromise or accept an imperfect solution fails to prevented a major escalation or imminent harm.
  • Decision to hoard critical knowledge or resources creates avoidable work or hardship for allies.

  • You identified your own incapacity, conflict of interest, or compromised judgment and yet did not recuse yourself.
  • Someone you care about was at fault and you took action to prevent consequences or exposure of their wrongdoing.

  • Revealed identities, relationships, patrol habits, defenses, or vulnerabilities in unsecured spaces.
  • Failed to vet individuals before bringing them to sensitive locations, meetings, or sacred spaces.
  • Discussed sept movements, leadership, or assets where surveillance was plausible (e.g. outside of the caern or pack territory).
  • Acted without accounting for retaliation/infiltration despite being aware of enemy/conflict, thus failing to prevent it.

  • Bringing unvetted individuals to a protected location.
  • Discussing locations or access methods in unsecured spaces.

  • Disruptive behavior during a ceremony or Moot.
  • Breaking a Fetish or using it in a manner contrary to the terms of the Spirit within it.
Repeat Your Past Mistakes -2 -4 Wisdom at Ranks 4 & 5. The wise learn from their mistakes. Based on your current Rank rating, not the rank you were when you first made the mistake. A "mistake" is something you have previously lost Renown for.

You acted recklessly, self-servingly, or destructively while claiming mystical justification, or leveraged an omen to rationalize a decision you already wanted to make.

Wisdom Among The Garou

Garou concepts of Wisdom reinforce that their culture must constantly rein in its own engine of destruction. As they reward calm, restraint, and humility in a people born to war. If you compare the various creeds, you'll notice that unique among the Garou's concepts of Wisdom is valuing disciplined restraint of Rage in the service of war, mercy toward the defeated, obedience to hierarchy, and measured judgment. Here are additional grounds for gaining and losing renown among the Garou:

Refuse An Honorable Surrender -Rank Lose rank if your foe has yielded, is incapacitated, or is restrained and no longer a combatant, and you execute him. This does not apply to Wyrm combatants.
Exploit Rank to Silence Legitimate Dissent -Rank Applies if you suppress a lawful Challenge through intimidation or threaten subordinates who raised valid concerns in a respectful/appropriate manner. Hierarchy is paramount to Garou, cheapening it is unwise.
Suffer Thy People to Tend Thy Sickness -Rank Applies if you refuse healing out of pride, hide contagion, derangement, or spiritual corruption, or neglect your commitments or duties due to a personal crisis. The reasons may be sympathetic, but this is a warrior culture, and you are expected to endure.

Exercise Mercy Toward a Defeated Foe +5-Rank Accept an honorable surrender, spare a helpless enemy who no longer poses a tactical threat, or prevent packmates from executing a defeated opponent.
Defer Action to Listen to Sacred Counsel +2 Luna created the Auspices and their Holy Duties for a reason. Gain Wisom when you delay a decision to hear either a Philodox's judgement, a Theurge's spiritual counsel, or a Ragabash's stress-test
Yield Tactical Credit to Preserve Hierarchy +1 Gained when you take a backseat so a superior can formally lead or support a leader's call you personally disagree with to preserve unity.
Correct a Younger Garou Without Humiliation +1 Gained when you discipline without shaming, teach without asserting dominance, or prevent another from destroying someone of lower rank for a correctable mistake.

  • Containable within a single action (e.g. some gaslighting, quick cover story)

  • -2xRank in everything

Example: Combat in public park at night that some joggers witnessed. Criteria:

  • 4+ witnesses
  • Said witnesses are certain of what they saw
  • Evidence created but retrievable (e.g. CCTV footage you can erase)
  • Required multiple actions to contain (e.g. coordinated cover story, bribes)
Major Veil Breach -5xRank
  • - 5xRank in everything

Example: Crinos combat in public because 'Delirium takes care of that'. Criteria:

  • 10+ witnesses
  • Evidence created and distributed (e.g. news coverage starting)
  • Required coordinated efforts from multiple characters to contain (e.g. multiple scenes, resource expenditure)
  • Authorities involved (police investigating, government agency attention)
  • Cleanup took multiple sessions
Repeated Veil Breach -Rank If you have committed any given veil breach within the past year, you additionally lose your Rank's worth across all renown types.
Forced to Breach the Veil To Survive Half Loss If your exposure was objectively unavoidable, whatever veil breach penalty you would otherwise have faced is cut in half.

Veil Repair

Not Breaking the Veil +0 Not shifting in public, using your gifts subtly, avoiding witnesses, etc. is a minimum baseline standard that will not be awarded Renown.
Preventing Veil Breach +1 Your decisions actively, proactively stopped another from imminently breaking the Veil. For example, you shot out a security camera before a Crinos throwdown - not because you all agreed on it, but because you clocked recklessness and took preventative action.
