== Summary ==


The Juniper Cross Community School was Founded in the 1920's, originally built by Black educators and community leaders determined to create a safe and empowering place for learning amidst segregation. Named after the resilient juniper tree, the school became more than an academic institution—it was a hub for activism, church meetings, and civil rights gatherings. Over the years, it weathered systemic neglect, while remaining a sanctuary diverse and underserved students to gain an education, befor ultimately closing in the late 1980s, it was partially shuttered, with many wings boarded up. However, the heart of the school remained, figuratively, alive through a host of community programs, such as providing free tutoring, meals on wheels to seniors, free breakfast and after school programs.

But there is a power here, fed through the Juniper Cross community that surrounds the school.  The community that built the school with their own hands.  The community that filled the school with educators.  The community that nurtured their children's education and dreamms in that school.

Notes:

Special Mechanics:
• One People, One Tongue (Rank 1): Members of the Sept gain the ability to understand each other no matter the spoken language. This does not grant the ability to understand those outside of the Sept, without the appropriate language merit. Nor does it convey the ability to speak/read/write the language. Only to understand another Sept mate using it. Spirit Speech and other 'magical' languages are exempt from this Caern Power and must be learned the traditional way.
• Small, But Mighty (Rank 2 Power): NPC mortals of Juniper Cross are mechanically treated as Kinfolk in regards to lunacy and delerium. PC Kinfolk of the Sept gain enhanced resilience and begin play with attributes 7/5/3 and Abilities 13/9/5. In addition kinfolk who have obtained renown are able to join packs, and contribute one point of totem per dot of renown.

Notes:
The Closed Juniper Cross Community School represents a unique Caern type. The surrounding community has the unofficial totem of The People, and it works in a synergistic relationship with the Caern's Juniper Totem. The more you invest in the well being of the community, the stronger the Caern becomes.

Special Mechanics:
• Successfully performing Rite of the Opened Caern grant +1 Health level per Caern's Rank (+5 in this instance). This is considered an extremely dangerous act, Caern's don't like giving up their power. Failing the rite can result in taking Caern levels in in Lethal damage, or even Agg in case of a botch. This is only to be done with Staff permission and the benefits only work in direct defense of the Caern.

Notes:
The area surrounding the Caern are regularly patrolled and home to the spirit Meridian who is irrevocably tied to the forest. The last spirit of the forest was killed by a Name Breaker (mage), and will not find a hospitable welcome here, nor should they so close to the Caern.
