Introduction[ edit ]

Takoda Chance Elan, known among the Fera as Weeps-with-Laughter, is an ancient Nuwisha trickster. Born Latrani (coyote-born) beneath the wide skies of the Texas plains in the 1700s, he was raised among the Comanche. Centuries have passed, yet Chance remains youthful, amber eyes gleaming with mischief and quiet wisdom.

He embodies Coyote's wisdom through dangerous humor, boundary-walker, divine fool, and teacher who hides clarity in laughter. Every joke is a lesson, every trick a mirror. His "cross-eyed clarity" sees the world sideways and sharp, joy shadowed by centuries of pain. His calling is constant: challenge stagnation, reveal hidden truths, protect what must stay veiled, and remind others that rules can bend and expectations break.

As an Umbral Danser sworn to Ptah, spirit of wisdom, mysteries, and travel, Chance carries lost maps and paths in his mind. He moves with preternatural grace, his bronze-toned skin inked with tattoos that chart both his flesh and spirit's journeys. Long black hair frames sharp features, and his presence lingers like the memory of a story most can't quite place.

His pranks on the Wyrm have earned him the hatred of a local Black Spiral Dancer hive, a danger that dogs his wandering. Yet he laughs at their pursuit, carrying Coyote's Fang, a dagger that strikes across realms, and a Portable Door that can sketch exits where none exist. Coupled with his gifts and rites, these tools turn flight into theater, ambush into comedy, and danger into another story worth telling.

Now in Houston, Chance navigates the city's chaos as a guide, gambler, and storyteller. To most, he's simply Chance: easy company, exasperating, and always laughing at a joke no one else has heard. To a few, he is more: a reminder that some paths can't be walked straight, and that even the most absurd story hides a truth worth finding.

* Dansing the Realms: For those who travel the Umbra, the Shadowlands, or stranger places and realms, Chance is a familiar face. As an Umbral Danser, he's mapped hidden paths and shortcuts between realms that even Theurges may not know. Packs and wanderers alike sometimes find him as a guide, cartographer, or fellow traveler. However, his routes are rarely straight, and the lesson may be in the detour.

* Kinfolk Whisperer: Kinfolk who feel ignored by their Garou cousins sometimes find Chance paying attention in ways the wolves never do. He listens, shares cigarettes and cards, nudges them toward success, and leaves encouragement wrapped in mischief.

* Pranking the Wyrm: Chance has a reputation for making life difficult for the Wyrm and its servants. Sometimes by accident, more often by design. For shifters in the endless war, he can be an unexpected ally... though his tricks may leave as much mess as victory.

* Wrong Joke at the Right Time: His words have weight. A single offhand comment might spark a fight between factions, soothe a monster's wrath, or draw a hidden truth into the open.
