Laurel is a Cliath Uktena Ragabash, previously from an Uktena Sept in North Carolina that's made her way down to Houston trying to investigate some 'family business'. She's pretty confident at least one ancestor-spirit wants her here anyways. Her family is Choctaw, but her single mother didn't have much time to teach her about family history, so she's having to learn that as well along with this whole werewolf thing.
